The Puerto Rico Tourism Co. (PRTC) touted Thursday increases in hotel occupancy and room rates.
The hotel occupancy rate was 79.6 percent in June, a solid hike over the 72.2 percent registered during the same month in 2011, according to Smith Travel Research.
The average room rate rose to $156.29 in June, up 5.6 percent from $148.01 last year.
Revenue per available room (RevPAR) was up 16.4 percent.
Hotel occupancy for the first half of 2012 averaged 75.9 percent, up from 73.2 percent during the same six-month period in 2011. Room rates averaged $185.38 through June, up 1.6 percent from $182.47 during the year-ago period.
“Without a doubt our promotional efforts and marketing campaign focused on the niche markets of beaches, adventure, nightlife, weddings, exploration, golf and other attractions such as our dining scene and history are delivering excellent results and bringing more visitors to the island,” PRTC Executive Director Luis Rivera Marín said.
“This year is going to be better than 2009, which was one of our better years,” Paradores Association President Jesús Ramos said.
