President Roberto Rivera Ruiz, effective immediately, giving him a presidential role, while Perelló will only participate in legislative matters.
The determination follows a Popular Democratic Party (PDP) Governing Board meeting in which multiple attempts were made at party headquarters to reach a consensus between PDP President David Bernier and Speaker Perelló.
In an Administrative Order signed by Perelló himself, the House Ruling, specifically section 5.2 regarding faculties and obligations, provides for the president to delegate “those functions(s) he finds necessary for the faithful fulfillment of his commission.”
The order states that House Vice President Rivera Ruiz will assume responsibility over the administrative functions for the duration of the federal trial against four politicians accused of corruption in government contract scheme.

“We are ending this issue to send a firm message to all enemies that want to shatter the Popular Democratic Party, as well as its leaders in the election campaign. Our institution was founded for the Puerto Rican people and, therefore, it is time to transcend any poorly influenced and badly intentioned differences to concentrate on presenting the proposals before the real issues our country is facing ahead of the November elections,” Perelló’s release reads.
The House speaker commented that “for 20 years I have travelled to every corner of this motherland” with the party’s flag. He added that the “love I carry in my heart is the same one that strengthens me today, and I must do what’s right for my country and for my party.”
The speaker said he is “headed in the direction I believe is right, and I stand firm in the principle of not giving into convictions that have ruled my life.”
Perelló Borrás has insisted he has not been formally accused of anything, and his

conscience is clear that he has never committed illegal or unethical acts, much less “against his values.” He has also repudiated being judged over unfounded rumors by the political opposition and personal agendas.
“It is time to turn the page on internal discrepancies and focus on an overwhelming victory for the Popular Party to protect our country, for that is what the next elections are about. We will go to the streets supporting David Bernier to secure that victory our country so desperately needs. It is not an option to be governed by the enemies of social justice and enemies of what defines us a nation.”
