The municipal executive also resigned his presidency of the Puerto Rico Mayors Association to join discussions regarding the Fisc
al Oversight & Management Board, where he will collaborate for the island’s municipalities and to contribute to the situation on a state level.

“I will continue serving my fellow mayors from the Municipal Revenue Collections Center (CRIM). I will continue watching for municipal autonomy while contributing to the central government’s fiscal recovery,” said O’Neill in his inaugural discourse.

O’Neill was sworn by Supreme Court Associate Judge Mildred Pabón Charneco at Guaynabo City Hall. The ceremony began at 6:00 p.m. and saw the likes of Gov. Ricardo Rosselló and former governors Carlos Romero Barceló, Rafael Hernández Colón, and Luis Fortuño. Also present were Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González and former Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi; legislators; mayors; and a nourished group of businessmen, special guests, and residents from the municipality.

The mayor swore commitment to an encompassing work plan that includes three measures in progress, which could extend beyond this term. These include the development of a waterfront, which he described as his administration’s most intense challenge due to its complexity, the fourth stage of La Marquesa Forest Park, and the Rafael Ithier Music Museum under construction in the structure that formerly housed the Ramón Baldorioty De Castro school adjacent to the Fine Arts Center.

The pro-statehood municipal executive affirmed the work won’t be halted despite the island’s precarious economic and fiscal situation.

“In Guaynabo we have done things as God mandates. We don’t have to face the budgetary deficit; we don’t have statutory debts pending; we are up to date and in fulfillment of all requirements for a healthy public administration, thanks to all the leaders in the municipal offices who have done more with less. We have been able to use the money adequately,” he stated.
