Congressman Darren Soto Reports

Congressman Darren Soto repsoto@mail8.housecommunications.gov via auth.ccsend.com Fri, Jul 30, 9:00 PM (2 days ago)to meDear friends and neighbors,
We have concluded yet another successful week advocating for Florida’s Ninth Congressional District.
We hosted a housing roundtable and press conference at the beginning of the week promoting housing assistance for Central Floridians who are facing home insecurity with the upcoming end to the eviction ban on July 31st.
This week, it also became increasingly clear that Central Floridians should get vaccinated against COVID-19 as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we are currently in a pandemic of the unvaccinated, and we as a community must do all that we can to stop the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant.
COVID-19 vaccines are readily available to those who want one. Please continue reading for information on vaccinations in the district.Working for the DistrictPromoting Assistance for Struggling Central FloridiansOn Monday, I held a housing roundtable with elected officials in Central Florida. American Rescue Plan housing assistance is available now to Central Florida renters and homeowners who are struggling. Those struggling should apply for help before the eviction ban ends on Saturday, July 31st.Check eligibility and apply hereStanding with Brave Capitol Police OfficersThis week was the first January 6th Commission hearing. These brave Capitol Police officers protected our lives and saved our democracy. We will investigate the causeshold those responsible accountable, and ensure this never happens again.Supporting Bipartisan InfrastructureThe American Rescue Plan put shots in arms, money in pockets, and created a plan to Build Back Better. Now, House Democrats are working with Republican members of the Problem Solvers Caucus and a bipartisan group of 67 senators to improve our infrastructure.Read my op-ed in the Orlando Sentinel hereSupporting Immigration ReformOur Hispanic Caucus stands with President Joe Biden in his call to include immigration reforms in the reconciliation package. This is our moment to help Dreamers, TPS recipients, farmworkers, and essential workers.Passing Crucial Funding BillsHouse Democrats are working hard and delivering results for the people. We are able to make progress in our mission to Build Back Better by providing funding for key instruments in education, job training, public health, and more.Supporting Cuban Protesters Fighting for FreedomAfro-Latinos make up nearly 70% of Cuba’s population. I joined Dr. Amalia Dache in a discussion about the persecution of Afro-Latinos by the communist regime. We must stop the apartheid system, protect civil rights, and bring democracy to Cuba.I am also pleased to announce that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus endorsed our Cuba pro-democracy resolution. We stand in solidarity with Cuban protesters fighting for freedom and democracy. It is time to pass the bipartisan HR 534 with Reps. Albio Sires, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Senators Bob Menendez and Marco Rubio.Click here for more information COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution in the DistrictAll Floridians 12 years of age and older are eligible to pre-register for a vaccine appointment NOW.
