to me

Dear Francisco,
We’re taking time this week to reflect on some of our most significant accomplishments during the 117th Congress.
Thanks to House Democrats and the support of President Joe Biden, we’ve passed bills like the Inflation Reduction Act, Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, American Rescue Plan, Honoring our PACT Act, and Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. We also came together to pass our bill to designate the Pulse National Memorial to remember our 49 angels.
In addition, we delivered millions in hurricane and pandemic relief, $51 million for NeoCity microchip manufacturing, nearly $300 million for Orlando International Airport, and are on track for a nearly $3 billion for a SunRail/Brightline Expansion. We also delivered over $10 million in Community Project Funding Requests for our district.
This week alone, we received another great jobs report that showed 261,000 new jobs and a historically low 3.7% unemployment rate. We also learned that Toho Water has applied for $193 million in WIFIA funds provided by the EPA to help us build new reservoirs, conserve our aquifer, and meet future clean water needs.
As this session comes to a close, I’m incredibly proud of what we have accomplished. It has been an honor to serve Florida’s Ninth Congressional District during this term.
Progress From This Week
Another Great Jobs Report
In October, the United States added 261,000 jobs and kept a historically low 3.7% unemployment rate. President Joe Biden and House Democrats will continue working to boost high-paying jobs, lower health care and energy costs, and keep our economy moving forward.
WIFIA Funds for Toho Water
We worked to help make Toho Water eligible for $193 million in WIFIA funds provided by the EPA to help us build new reservoirs, conserve our aquifer, and meet future clean water needs.
Greatest Accomplishments
Passing the Inflation Reduction Act
Democrats understand that the American people need action to lower costs and save our planet. That’s why I voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act and lower the cost of medicine for seniors and provide the largest investment to combat climate change in our nation’s history. We’re putting people over politics.
Passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
President Biden’s Infrastructure Law will change the way Central Floridians travel. This legislation will help build better roads and bridges, public transit, and passenger rails. We are on track for $3 billion for a SunRail/Brightline expansion and working on future expansions of I-4 Ultimate, Poinciana Parkway, Sunbridge Parkway, and more.
Passing the CHIPS and Science Act
The landmark CHIPS and Science Act boosts microchip manufacturing to fix the shortage, makes critical investments in science/innovation, increases our competitiveness, and protects the homeland. It also provides new higher-paying jobs at NeoCity in our district.
Passing the American Rescue Plan
The American Rescue Plan has undeniably helped millions of Americans get shots in arms, money in pockets, schools open safely and get back to work. As a result of ARP, we added more than four million new jobs, nearly doubled GDP growth, lowered unemployment to historic levels and made major progress against food insecurity.
Passing the Honoring our PACT Act
Veterans defended our freedom, suffered from burn pits, and deserve action. That’s why I proudly supported the Honoring our PACT Act. Our veterans living with the effects of toxic exposure can no longer wait for the care and benefits they’ve earned.
Passing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act
Ending gun violence in America requires us all to work together. I’m proud of the House and Senate for uniting to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. This legislation will help us save lives and provide a better future for our youth.
Passing the National Pulse Memorial
Today and every day, we honor the memory and legacy of the 49 lives our community lost on the night of the Pulse nightclub shooting. The National Pulse Memorial is a testament to the strength and support of our Orlando Strong community. We came together to make Pulse a National Memorial so that tragedies like this are never forgotten. We must continue to work hard to end gun violence once and for all.
Securing Student Loan Relief
We worked with President Biden to provide well-needed student loan relief to 2.43 million eligible Floridians. The application for $10,000 in student debt relief is now open. It’s up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients.
Delivering for Central Florida
Millions of Dollars for Hurricane Relief
House Democrats passed a new funding bill that includes up to $18.8 billion in FEMA Disaster Relief Fund authority to help Florida and Puerto Rico recover and $2 billion for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program.
$51 Million for NeoCity Microchips
Thanks to an American Rescue Plan grant, we will have the opportunity to almost double the capacity of NeoCity’s microchip manufacturing facility. The microchips are used by NASA and other aerospace companies in the area.
Nearly $300 Million for Orlando International Airport
Thanks to the Infrastructure Law, Orlando International Airport will receive nearly $250 million over five years in federal funding for Airport Improvement Projects. We secured an additional $50 million to finish the final four gates of our new Terminal C.
Over $10 Million in Community Project Funding Requests
All 10 Community Project Funding Requests I submitted for the FY22 budget passed. They include a new Lake Nona Community Center, St. Cloud clean water initiatives, Valencia Poinciana Solar Project, NeoCity internships, SR 192 Transitional Housing, Berlinsky House upgrades, and more. These over $10 million in projects will help improve the quality of life in our district.
Spring 2023 Internship Applications
Federal Resources for Affected Individuals
President Joe Biden approved Individual Assistance for all counties in Florida’s Ninth Congressional District: Orange, Osceola, and Polk. As a result, affected families can file claims if they need home repairs or have other damaged property. Disaster Recovery Centers have also been opened to help individuals apply for federal assistance and disaster loans, update applications, and learn about other resources available.
We are thrilled to announce that all three counties have been approved for the Transitional Sheltering Assistance Program to provide short-term lodging assistance for victims of the storm. For long-term solutions, we have asked FEMA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development to consider activating Direct Temporary Housing Assistance (DTHA).
If you receive a rejection from FEMA, it may not be the end of the road. You have up to 60 days to submit an appeal if you disagree with FEMA’s decision and there are often simple steps you can take to remedy the situation.
Assistance for Small Businesses
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has established facilities to provide business owners, nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters with answers to their questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process, and help each person complete their electronic loan application. These facilities can be either virtual or brick-and-mortar, depending on the circumstances surrounding the disaster and other factors. Individuals should apply under SBA declaration # 17644.
